SCHISM OF LIGHT

The golden hour has arrived.

Let the light guide you.

Schism of Light was created as a nod to a previous design, while expanding on its majestic natural theme. The current iteration came to me in a dream where vivid memories of the grand canyon were warped into a spiraling layout. The entire level was built around the idea of light breaking through the natural geometry just perfectly to reveal distinct gameplay areas. The level features numerous cave formations to fight around and through. This project allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and create something that is truly unique.

My design goals here were to create intuitive pathways that ascend upward towards an apex. The main idea was that players would always be moving upward to achieve higher ground and cycling back downward to force encounters and control gameplay. The most challenging aspect of this design was to create such a vertical play space that allowed for easily countered positions. There are essentially two dueling look outs on opposite ends that focus in on the central spire and bridges below.
